The Story

A few years ago on a trip to Telemark, in the Norwegian mountains, Gyri S. Susrud, the designer behind Gyri Design, spotted some beautiful old textiles woven by her grandmother hanging on the walls in the family cottage.

Rediscovering these old beautiful patterns, which were no longer in vogue, made her wonder if she could illuminate her grandmother's art and heritage for the modern world.

On the same trip Gyri spotted the decorative art form 'Rosemaling' painted on decorative objects such as bowls, trays and cabinets, as well as the walls and ceiling in the mountain hotel nearby the cottage. She was struck by the elegance and graphic nature of this style, from the Rococo period, and was inspired to bring it back into fashion once more.

Through the brand Gyri Design she hopes to preserve Norwegian artistic heritage and traditions and bring them back to public attention by presenting them with a modern twist.
